Christy Westhovens

Christy Westhovens

Christy Westhovens is a non binary visual artist, researcher, and builder of machines. Driven by her curiosity, she designs equipment to measure and translate natural processes into an intuitive experience. This might involve guiding you through microscopic landscapes, generating live poetry, or creating interactive soundscapes based on your own data. In addition to crafting machines for exploring our environment, she also explores ways to build machines in community settings where playing, exploring, shaping, and adapting personal experiences in relation to the environment are central. Through collective machine-building practices, she aims to foster control and awareness over the technologies that continually surround us. In a broader sense, she invites reflection on the nature of experience, the relationship between humans and machines, and how we ascribe meaning to the world around us. Christy worked on several Tools of the Tools for Action sensorium, including dream machines and facillitated the workhop Rainbow Warriors at BAK Basis in Utrecht.
